| One of the real-life truths about working successfully as an Information Professional today is that you often have to influence others to get their buy-in or to obtain the decision that you want. In a corporation or organization, your ideas often have to be “sold” to others - administrators, managers, IT, faculty, students, colleagues, patrons, or clients. When the economy takes a downturn, more people must try to make their own work, as is the case these days for many information professionals who find themselves forced to become “info-entrepreneurs”. In that case, the idea that must be “sold” to others is the value of your own knowledge and skills.
No matter which path you are taking, one of the most critical skills needed in today's competitive, fast-changing environment is the ability to get your message across effectively to influence or persuade a variety of people.
This practical one-day workshop provides the proven communication strategies and structures needed to plan and deliver persuasive communications to obtain buy-in to your ideas and approval for your projects and proposals.
As part of your in class experience you will progress through four Modules as you enhance your understanding of others’ motivation and improve your ability to achieve results through insightful influence:
In Module One you will obtain an analysis of your own “Communication Style”, gaining insight into how that style is perceived by others.
Equipped with this knowledge, during Module Two of the course, you will learn how to "Style-flex" in order to adapt and target your communication content for greater impact and success.
In Module Three, you will plan the content for a chosen upcoming communication or presentation that is important to you.
Finally, in Module Four you will share your plan and receive feedback and suggestions in-class from professional colleagues. You will also receive a short, practical follow-up assignment to complete after the workshop, ensuring your progress.
Whether you are engaged in information or records management, libraries, museums or technology work, in management or staff work, or are having to seek contract employment as an “Information Entrepreneur” you will find that this practical workshop is packed with skills and steps you can use immediately and over the course of your career to communicate persuasively and get the decisions and results you need. |
